Kazakhstan's National Bank addressed complaints regarding banks and currency exchange offices.

The National Bank reminds that banknotes are legal tender and must be accepted by exchange points in Kazakhstan without charging a fee, provided they are genuine and undamaged. Fees may only be charged if the banknotes are deemed unfit for payment or circulation.

Additionally, the financial regulator clarified that banks have the right to set fees for cash transactions as part of their internal pricing policies.

If an exchange point charges a fee, differentiates foreign currency by the year of issue of banknotes, or unjustifiably refuses to exchange, it is recommended to file a complaint with the territorial branch of the National Bank at the location of the exchange point. The complaint should include detailed information and attach any relevant documents for action to be taken in accordance with the law.
