The department noted that the proper distribution of floodwaters has not only filled reservoirs but also directed water into rivers and lakes that have faced drying out in recent years, as well as into estuaries, natural pastures, and other sites.
- Since the beginning of the year, 15.4 billion cubic meters of water have flowed into Lake Balkhash, which is 4 billion cubic meters more than the previous year. Of this, 3.3 billion cubic meters were received during the flood. The Caspian Sea has received 17 billion cubic meters of water since the start of the year. For the first time in 10 years, the Kapchagai Reservoir in the Almaty region has filled to 100%, collecting over 18 billion cubic meters of water. During the flood, 80 million cubic meters of water were directed to the Kamysh-Samarsky lakes in the West Kazakhstan region. Additionally, 839 million cubic meters of water were sent from the Ulytau region to the Kyzylorda region. As a result, for the first time in recorded history, this water reached the lake systems of the Kyzylorda region via the Sarysu River, - stated the announcement.
It was noted that in the southern part of the country, thanks to clear water distribution and the implementation of water-saving technologies, it has also been possible to improve the water balance.
- Approximately 2.5 billion cubic meters of water have been directed to the North Aral Sea this year, which is more than 400 million cubic meters above the amount in 2023. The use of water-saving technologies has allowed farmers in the Kyzylorda region to save 200 million cubic meters of water, which were also directed to the North Aral, - explained the ministry.
The Ministry of Water Resources clarified that a total of over 4.7 billion cubic meters of water have been directed to the lake systems of the Kyzylorda region since the beginning of the year. For comparison, last year this figure was around 4.3 billion cubic meters.
- In the distribution of water resources, we always seek a proper balance between the needs of the economy and the maintenance of the ecosystems of water bodies. This year significant work has been done to preserve and restore both large and small water bodies without harming farmers and other water users. For instance, during the past irrigation period, approximately 11 billion cubic meters of water were supplied to the country's agricultural enterprises. Future efforts in this direction will be enhanced, including through the establishment of a new regulatory framework that prioritizes sound management and consumption of water, – noted Nurtjan Nurzhigitov, the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
