On December 15, the KNB department for the Kostanay region, in coordination with the prosecutor's office, shut down the operations of an underground laboratory producing synthetic drugs.
According to the KNB, two citizens of Kazakhstan were detained during the production of psychotropic substances and have been taken into custody with court approval.
During the search, approximately 2 kg of the ready psychotropic substance "mefedrone," as well as laboratory equipment and precursors for drug production, were seized.
A pre-trial investigation is underway for signs of a crime as defined by part 3 of article 297 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the provisions of article 294 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the illegal production, processing, acquisition, storage, transportation for the purpose of sale, mailing, or sale of narcotic substances, psychotropic substances, and their analogs committed by a group of individuals by prior agreement, concerning narcotic substances, psychotropic substances, and their analogs in especially large amounts, is punishable by imprisonment for a term of ten to fifteen years with confiscation of property.
