The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has released details regarding a doping case involving former world number one Polish tennis player (No. 2), according to reports. It was revealed recently that she failed a doping test.
Iga SwiatekA comprehensive report on the five-time Grand Slam champion and world number two is available at the link.
According to the document, on August 12, the day she submitted a positive doping sample, Swiatek indicated in a special form that she was using 14 different supplements and medications. Among them was melatonin, which later turned out to be contaminated with traces of the banned substance - trimetazidine.
The information about such a high number of supplements taken has sparked intense discussions among journalists and social media users.
"I know that players take many supplements legally, but this sounds excessive. I'm not criticizing Swiatek herself, but I would like to know how many supplements other players typically take and how beneficial they are," shared well-known journalist Simon Cambers.
He was joined by 30-year-old British tennis player Liam Broady, who wrote: "This is madness!".
As a reminder, this year Swiatek faced Kazakhstan's top player (No. 6) twice. In the final of the tournament in Doha (Qatar), Rybakina lost to her Polish opponent 7:6(8), 6:2. In the semifinals of the tournament in Stuttgart (Germany), however, the Kazakh player triumphed - 6:3, 4:6, 6:3.
